Great Weather

Wow, this weather has been incredible. In honor of it I went out and rode big today. Ashley joined me for 30 miles and as always, showed her strength on the climbs.....made me work hard to keep up. After dropping Ash off at her car I went and finished my ride. 90 miles, 6000 feet of climbing, 5 hours. Plenty of pain.....based on watts produced I burned 4500 cal. So I get to eat big tonight....Chipotle it is, and yes I will take that extra Guacamole

Training Time

Well, the season started for me a few weeks ago, at least as far as my training goes. Every season starts with testing. Usually in the form of a 20 minute all out effort recorded by my power meter and emailed to my coach. Those numbers were good, down from my season peak, but they should be down...this has been the off season. Time to eat too much and ride too little. But all that has changed now. Today was a solid workout 65 miles in 3:10. Mostly just trying to keep the pedals turning over and using some force on the hills. A lot of my focus over the next week will be just long steady distance for endurance and force work for leg strength. All this to help me get ready for the race season with Trek and for pedaling a Tandem Bike for 150 miles in June. I am really looking forward to this years ride. We are already building an exciting team, lots of new faces, and lots of returning members. Of course, we have the group that won't commit to the ride yet either.
On the team front, the new website is up and running: www.teamuvapegasus.org

This coming week I a meeting with Scott and Tim to try and iron out some details on team jerseys and fund raising ideas. Hopefully we will have some great news out of that as well.

Training Tip of the week:
Stretch and get your feet up!!
After a long hard ride, take the time to stretch really well. Usually about 10-20 minutes, focus on the major mover muscles of the legs and butt. After stretching, take 10 minutes to put your feet in the air. By doing this you encourage the clearing of metabolites from the leg muscles and enhance the recovery from the days hard work.....helping to get you ready for a second day of training and riding. It does not work as well as a profesional massage, but it helps.

2008 MS Tour de Vine

The MS tour this year is going to be on June 7th and 8th. Recruitment is underway. Our team is looking to improve on last years attendance and fundraising. Once again this year, Bike Factory of Charlottesville is offering team specials to any rider for Team UVA Pegasus as well. A huge thanks to them for that.

Team UVA Pegasus Does Vermont

Things went really well for us in Vermont. Everyone completed both days and we had no significant injuries or bike issues. Here are a few pictures from the ride. As of yet we do not have a total on our fund raising. A big thanks to Kimmy and Buck's Mom, Dad, and Grandma for housing us, feeding us, and coming out each day to cheer us on.

Jerseys are on the way

Good Morning Team,
This weekend was a fun one for me, moving Becca North to Hartford, Ct. was an adventure. We got in some decent rides this weekend, short rides, but fun for certain. I got the official word today that the Jerseys should be in any time. I am posting the pictures below of the design that was used. We still have extra jerseys, so keep recruiting riders, Crutchfield is about to catch us in nubers.

Hope everyone is enjoying Memorial Day,

Shawn

Get out and ride

Today was a lonely day on the bike.

But at least I had horses to keep me company.

Speaking of horses, you know you are getting fast when they start chasing you (ignore that they are tethered to a cart)

Just remember, the weather could be worse. Just think back to base mile training in the winter.

Now get out and ride, it sounds like a group is planning a large Saturday morning ride, I will be working.
